The holiday season is a time for compassion, community, and coming together and that spirit was on full display during Christmas at City Hall in North Charleston. Hosted by local nonprofit Every 1 Voice Matters, this annual Christmas giveback brought hundreds of families together to celebrate, connect, and ensure children across our community experienced the true magic of the holidays.
As proud sponsors and longtime supporters of Every 1 Voice Matters, The Thumbs Up Guys were honored to take part in this incredible event; not only through sponsorship, but by rolling up our sleeves to help build bikes, pass out essential items, and spend the day connecting directly with members of our community.
A Day of Giving, Joy and Community
Each year, Every 1 Voice Matters hosts its Annual Christmas Giveback, a heartwarming event designed to bring comfort and joy to children in low-income communities while connecting parents to organizations and resources available to them year-round. This year’s Christmas at City Hall was nothing short of inspiring, welcoming over 600 attendees for a celebration rooted in generosity and togetherness.
Thanks to the overwhelming support of donors, volunteers and community partners, the event provided essential gifts to hundreds of children, including:
- Brand-new winter coats for over 700 children, helping keep them warm throughout the winter
- New toys for more than 300 children, bringing excitement and smiles on Christmas morning
- Over 200 bikes built and gifted, with many children receiving a bike for the very first time
Watching children light up as they received coats, toys, and bikes was a powerful reminder of why giving back matters.

Building Bikes and Building Hope
One of the biggest highlights of the Christmas at City Hall event was the bike build and giveaway. The team at The Thumbs Up Guys volunteered alongside other community members to help assemble the brand-new bikes that would later be gifted to children. By building the bikes ahead of time, volunteers ensured families could focus on celebrating together rather than worrying about assembly. By the end of the day, hundreds of children rode away with a brand-new bike, many experiencing that joy for the very first time.
Once the event was underway, our team spent the day passing out bags filled with essential items, sharing resources, and taking time to talk with families: listening, laughing, and strengthening the connections that make our community so special.
These moments weren’t just about gifts; they were about restoring hope and reminding families that their community cares.
